Get Half Off Your Starbucks Drink on Yay Day

Posted by Larita Shotwell on Thursday, August 8, 2024

This Thursday, November 30, Starbucks Rewards members can get 50 percent off their drink between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. local time to celebrate Yay Day. Starbucks will send Rewards members a Yay Day coupon on the Starbucks app.

Half Off Drinks With New Cold Foams on Yay Day

The Starbucks Yay Day deal applies to any handcrafted drink. That includes drinks with the coffee shop's new holiday cold foams, though the foams come with an additional charge.

Starbucks' holiday cold foam flavors include:

  • Peppermint Chocolate Cream: Peppermint-flavored syrup and chocolate malt powder with vanilla sweet cream.
  • Sugar Cookie Cream: Sugar cookie-flavored syrup with vanilla sweet cream.
  • Chestnut Praline Cream: The flavor of caramelized chestnuts and spices blended with vanilla sweet cream.
  • Caramel Brulée Cream: Caramel brulée sauce with vanilla sweet cream.

How Does Starbucks Rewards Work?

You must be a Starbucks Rewards member to get this deal. Fortunately, it's not too late to sign up and get half off your drink. Either use the Starbucks app on your phone or navigate to www.starbucks.com/rewards to sign up. You'll need your full name and an email address to associate with your account.

Besides special offers like this Yay Day deal, Starbucks Rewards members also collect "Stars" with each order. You get one Star per $1 you spend at participating stores.

Starbucks Rewards members can redeem their Stars for items in store:

  • 25 Stars for drink add-ons, like an espresso shot, syrup or dairy alternative.
  • 100 Stars for a hot brewed coffee, hot steeped tea, ice brewed coffee, ice brewed tea, bakery item or snack.
  • 200 Stars for a handcrafted drink, like a latte or Frappuccino, or a hot breakfast item, like a breakfast sandwich.
  • 300 Stars for a salad, lunch sandwich, protein box or a package of coffee beans.
  • 400 Stars for $20 of selected merchandise in stores.

Starbucks Faced Walkouts Earlier This Holiday Season

Earlier this year for their Red Cup Day event, Starbucks employees at hundreds of stores walked out to demand improved staffing.

"Red Cup Day (November 16) is Starbucks's biggest sales event of the season—and also one of the most infamously hard, understaffed days for the baristas that work them," Starbucks Workers United said in a press release.

Starbucks responded with a statement: "We remain committed to working with all partners, side-by-side[...]and we hope that Workers United's priorities will shift to include the shared success of our partners and working to negotiate contracts for those they represent."

Starbucks has also announced it will increase hourly wages and benefits for the majority of U.S. workers, starting in January. That could mean a 3 percent pay increase for hourly workers and at least a 5 percent raise for employees who have been at the company for five or more years.

There are no walkouts currently planned for Yay Day.
