DEAR DEIDRE: I PLAN to do absolutely nothing nice or helpful for my husband for Father’s Day because he did nothing nice or helpful for me on Mother’s Day.
We have three children aged five, seven and ten. I am 35 and work evening shifts. My husband is 43 and works days.

My team and I are working safely from home but we are here to help you as always.
I do all the laundry, cooking and washing-up.
I cook and clear up the meal before I leave in the evening, and put out the kids’ nightclothes all ready for them. My husband does the absolute minimum.
On Mother’s Day he sat watching TV all day, paying no attention to me or the kids. In the end I snapped, saying, “Oh sorry, I didn’t realise it’s Fathers’ Day and not Mother’s Day after all.”
It made no difference. I am fed up and frazzled.

DEIDRE SAYS: Take a deep breath and firmly resolve you are not going to stomp around all today like a martyr.
Tell your husband cheerfully that there is a regime change in your house. Father’s Day is going to be celebrated big time by him taking all the kids out for the day while you put your feet up.
Tomorrow, present him with a list of everything that has to be done and insist that he signs up for a fair share.
